Which Path Do I Take?

The beginning of a new year is a great time to re-evaluate where we’re headed and what we’re doing with our life.  Or even what we want to get out of this blank canvas of the year that is spread out before us.  How do we want to feel; what experiences will help us feel that way; are good things to think about.

Sometimes we have no idea and sometimes we know exactly what we want.  Sometimes, especially when we have small children, or any age children, we just hope to make it through!

That is how I used to go through life – simply let it happen to me and not even think about it.

When we consciously and intentionally make our decisions, then we have more control over how life unfolds for us.  It may not be possible to change our path exactly, for example if we have a family to look after, but what this can change is the way we approach life and how we respond to life.  It will open us up to noticing the opportunities that do come our way that are in alignment with what we want our lives to be.  It may change our attitude about life in general and so change how we look at what’s happening for us in life.

For example, we may not be able to change jobs right away, but intentionally looking at what we want out of life or how we want to feel, may help us to notice when those things actually happen that make us feel the way we want to feel.  Taking time to consciously think about our life may also make us more aware of opportunities that come our way that are in line with how we want our lives to be.

How do we know which path is truly the right one for us?  How do we discern which path is best for us?

It really doesn’t matter which path we choose for we can make a different choice any time we like.  If we do want to make the best choice, one that is true and right for us at this particular time and place, then sit with your choices for a bit.

Sit somewhere that you are comfortable and won’t be disturbed.  It doesn’t have to take a long time.  Clear your mind of everything else.  Ask the question “Is this the right path for me at this time?” and think about the path you are wondering about.  Then sit with it.  If other thoughts, ideas, questions come up, simply see them as clouds and let them float on through.

When we sit long enough and quiet enough, we can hear our soul answer.  It may come as a word or two.  Maybe a simple “yes” or “no”.  It may be a pleasant or unpleasant feeling that comes over us.  It may be a deep knowing that this is or isn’t the path for us right now.  Whatever comes, accept it and then go with it.

The wonderful part is that no matter what path we take, we don’t need to know how to get on it or how it will turn out.  We don’t need to have it all figured out.  The first small step is all we need.  And then the next step and the next step and it will all fall into place.  Remember that it’s all about the journey and not necessarily the destination!

What path will you take in 2018?

Which path is your soul leading you toward?

Will you take the time to hear and then listen and follow?

I would be very interested to hear what happens for you.  Leave a comment below.
