Seeing With the Heart

I often go through life without really seeing or paying attention to much.  In the busyness of living I forget to take time to breathe almost.

I hurry by the beautiful sunset on my way to this or my way home from that.  I see it but do I take time to really notice?  Do I take time to admire it and let its beauty sink into my body and be absorbed by my soul?  I know I never used to!

I would notice and carry on or else reach for my camera to capture it in digital form.  In the next few minutes I would forget all about it.

Now, I try to stay with it awhile longer.  I take a couple of deep breaths, letting the beauty flow over me and through me.  I feel the tension in my body release.  I feel peace, even joy, enter my being.  I feel the connectedness of all things.  The oneness of the Universe and everything in it.  I see with my heart!  Then I can take this feeling with me throughout my day.

We can see with our heart in all the busyness of life no matter where we are or what we’re doing.  When I remember, I stop whatever I’m doing and take a couple of deep breaths.  Again, I feel my body relax and fill with love and peace.  Then I can see everything with my heart.

I saw this enacted the other day when I was with my son and his family.  The four-year old was upset and crying about something.  I don’t even remember now what it was all about.  I saw the almost six-year old brother standing back, watching.  After a few moments he came over to his little brother and gave him his brand new sword to play with (he had just gotten the sword that day!).  He said, “Will this help?”

That is truly seeing with the heart!  I hope I can live from that place of love deep within more often.  What a different world this would be if we all tried to see and live with our hearts!!  Try it and let me know how it goes.
