Facing Fear

I originally was going to talk to you about fear and I still am but from a totally different take due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Fear is a natural reaction to something that could take our life.  Fear is our body’s response for survival.  Fear is natural and normal.  It is what we do with that fear that makes the difference.

As this virus spreads around the world, those in government have taken steps to prevent or at least impede its spread.  This makes good sense in response to the fear of our very survival.

We can let that fear overwhelm us and take over, causing us to hoard what we think are the essentials for our survival over the next weeks or months.  Fear likes to get ahold of us and cloud our thinking so that all we can concentrate on is our own survival.

Or we can allow that fear to guide us to make sensible decisions at this time, like staying home as much as we can, keeping our contact with only a few friends or family, and shutting down contact with the general public as much as possible.

This has challenges for those with children who still have to go to work.  If you can stay at home too, it opens up a whole new world with unlimited time to spend with your kids, doing creative, fun activities that actually help them to learn.  Facebook is full of fun ideas of how to spend time with your kids.

If you are one of those who is staying closer to home these days, hopefully this time of slowing down can be of benefit to you.  When we slow down, it allows us to take time to go within and discover who we really are, to connect with our ‘Higher Self’, or ‘inner being’ or whatever term you care to use, the Divine Spark within us, God, our inner knowing.

Slowing down helps us to see the world from a whole new perspective.  Love begins to seep in, replacing the fear.  We may even experience more joy!

The whole world has been rushing around full tilt for far too long.  We are now being forced to slow down and who knows, hopefully the majority of people will discover that they like this new lifestyle and make changes in their life accordingly.

I have discovered so many beautiful sayings, writings, and poems about life with the COVID-19 scare, that tell the good things that may result from this far better than I can.  Here is my favourite:

“And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still.  And listened more deeply.  Some meditated, some prayed, some danced.  Some met their shadows.  And the people began to think differently.  And the people healed.  And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.  And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.”  ~ Kitty O’Meara

How are you facing the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic? The choice is yours.
